1. Introduction: Government Contracts Attorney Position

The Giancola Law firm is seeking the services of a government contracts attorney to assist the Principal (Mr. Giancola) with legal matters related to U.S. Government Contracts by drafting documents, conducting legal research, and organizing case files. His/Her duties could include helping with compliance, litigation, and administrative tasks in connection with Mr. Giancola’s representation of domestic or overseas contractors that do business with the U.S. Federal Government.

He is a licensed member of the Maryland State Bar and possesses three decades of expertise in Government procurement. This establishment, which is overseen by attorneys, specializes exclusively in U.S. Federal Government contract affairs.

2. Required Skills Sets: Government Contracts Attorney Position

Key required skills in general include strong organizational skills, attention to detail, familiarity with federal law and regulations, and proficiency with legal databases.

More specifically, assigned duties could include: Draft and review documents; Prepare, review, and manage legal documents, including contracts, briefs, and correspondence; Conduct legal research using electronic databases  that  include use of Artificial Intelligence (AI); Research relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles related to government contracts and compliance; Organize case files: Gather, organize, and maintain legal documents, evidence, and case files; Assist with trials and hearings; Help Mr. Giancola during trials by handling exhibits, taking notes, or reviewing transcripts; Communicate and liaise with law firm clients as directed by Mr. Giancola; File documents with the appropriate government agencies, courts, or opposing counsel; Investigate potential client inquiries.

3. Required Education and Experience Qualifications

Must be highly conversant in FAR/DFARS compliance and small business government contracting programs. An attorney is preferred for this position, but a government contracts PARALEGAL or ACQUISITION CONSULTANT with extensive knowledge of the subject matter and demonstrated experience MAY be acceptable. 

Education: A law degree plus  one state bar admission,  a paralegal certificate, and/or a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or a law or business-related field is required.

Experience: Prior experience in a LAW FIRM, a FEDERAL  GOVERNMENT AGENCY, or a FEDERAL CONTRACTOR is required. 

Technical skills: Proficiency with legal databases (such as PACER and LEXIS/NEXIS), document management systems, and standard office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.

Legal knowledge: A strong understanding of legal principles, contract law, and federal administrative law is required.

Soft skills: Excellent communication (written and verbal), strong attention to detail, discretion, organization, and problem-solving skills are vital for success is required.

4. Hiring and Project Assignment Process

The successful applicant will be sent a standard outside consultant/attorney agreement (which includes a standard non-disclosure agreement). The agreement may be canceled in writing at any time by either party and for any reason.

Principal is a well-regarded and highly experienced government contracts lawyer. Principal will remain legally and administratively responsible to the client at all times for all law firm work product, interim and final outputs, and client interface.

Specific work assignments are issued via written Task Orders (TOs), with an initial NTE number of hours included (the ceiling on the hours will be raised as needed depending on how the project evolves). Principal pays very promptly and by the hour per an agreed-upon hourly rate based on an attorney/consultant invoice submitted semi-monthly to Mr. Giancola (that includes detailed time sheets). The agreed-upon hourly rate for TO work shall be consistent with the complexity of the TO work assignment itself and with industry standards. An IRS Form 1099-MISC will be sent to the attorney/consultant in January of each year for payments made to the attorney/consultant by the Giancola Law Firm for the preceding calendar year.
