The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) acquisition.gov is codified at 48 C.F.R. Chapter 1. It is the basic and by far the most important Federal regulation governing the award and administration of U.S. Federal Government contracts. It is the “bible” so to speak for Government Contracting Officers. This makes compliance with the FAR a critical requirement in order to be a successful Government contractor or subcontractor. Contractor violations of the FAR can have dire legal consequences for both the entity and its owners/officers.

Federal agency supplements to the FAR are codified in the same Title 48 C.F.R. in successive chapters (e.g, the Defense Federal Acquisition Supplement – known as the DFARS – is located in 48 C.F.R. Chapter 2).
